Summary
Your bank account shows income deposits over time, which is one of the most reliable ways to confirm your employment or income for your verifier.
The connection itself is secure and straightforward. You'll be redirected to your bank's own login page, authorise a one-time read-only data share, and return to Konfir. Your bank credentials (e.g ID and password) never pass through Konfir - it stays between you and your bank.
Before you start
You'll need:
A UK bank account (current account, or savings account if that's where income is deposited)
Your online banking login details - username, password, PIN, or biometric depending on your bank
Step by step
Step 1: Click "Connect Bank"
On your verification page, find the bank account option and click to connect. You'll be shown a list of supported banks - find yours and select it.
Step 2: Log in at your bank
You'll leave Konfir's page and be routed through TrueLayer - an FCA-regulated Open Banking provider - before landing on your bank's secure login page. TrueLayer is the technical intermediary that facilitates the connection; it's normal to see their name during this step. Log in at your bank as you normally would - Konfir never sees your credentials.
Step 3: Authorise Konfir
After logging in, your bank will show you a permissions screen - something like "Allow Konfir to access your account?" You'll see a summary of what access is being requested (read your transaction history and account details - never the ability to move money). Review it and authorise.
Step 4: Return to Konfir
You'll be redirected back automatically. You'll see a confirmation that your bank has connected. You're done.
What data is shared
Shared | Not shared |
Transaction data | Card numbers |
Bank name | PINs or passwords |
Account type and holder name | Account number & sort code |
This limited data lets Konfir confirm your employment or income objectively, without unnecessary disclosures.
Can I skip? (Yes)
Yes. You can skip any data source in Konfir. If you skip Open Banking, connect HMRC or payroll instead. Your verifier will see which sources were connected and decide whether they need anything further.
Frequently asked questions
Can I connect more than one account?
Yes. If your income is split across accounts or banks, you can connect multiple accounts - for example, a salary account and a separate freelance income account. See: Which bank account should I connect?
I can't connect my bank account
If the connection fails, check the troubleshooting steps in I can't find or log in to my bank. If it still won't connect, skip this source and continue with your other available data sources - you can still submit your verification. Your verifier will review the result and let you know if they need anything further.
Is this safe?
Yes. You're logging directly into your bank's secure page - Konfir never touches your password. This method (called Open Banking) is a regulated, industry-standard approach used widely across UK financial services.
What is Open Banking?
Open Banking is a UK regulatory framework that lets you securely share your bank data with authorised third parties. Konfir is authorised to use it. Your bank controls the permission and you can revoke it at any time.
Can Konfir see my spending and outgoings?
Yes - Konfir accesses your transaction history through Open Banking, which includes spending transactions. However, your spending and outgoings are not shared with your verifier. Only employment income patterns - salary payments and their consistency - are analysed and included in your result.
How do I know Konfir isn't storing my bank access?
The connection is one-time - it ends when you submit. You can verify this in your bank's connected apps or open banking settings, where Konfir will no longer appear as an active authorisation.
