Summary
Yes. Using Konfir is optional. If you’d prefer not to verify digitally, tell your verifier (the organisation that requested the check). They can cancel your Konfir check and switch to manual methods (documents and/or references), although this will usually take longer and may involve sharing more information than Konfir would.
Your options
Use Konfir, but connect only what you’re comfortable with - You’re in control of which sources you use (Banking/HMRC/Payroll), subject to what your verifier enables. This keeps things digital and fast.
Don’t use Konfir at all - Ask your verifier to switch to manual checks. They’ll tell you exactly what they accept (documents, references, formats).
Note: Some verifiers enable only one digital source (e.g., HMRC). If you don’t want to connect that source and no others are available, you won’t be able to complete via Konfir - the verifier can move you to their manual process.
What to expect with manual checks
Timing: Typically slower (days/weeks vs minutes).
Evidence: May require multiple documents.
Privacy: Documents may reveal more than the minimal data Konfir shares and be kept on files indefinitely, whilst references will contact your current/past employers and may involve opinionated judgements rather than just the facts.
