Summary
Konfir can usually verify your history even if you were self-employed, unemployed, or had breaks in work. In some cases, your verifier may ask for extra information or documents to fill in the gaps.
Self-employed or freelance work
Verified through income payments in your bank account or HMRC
You’ll appear as self-employed with the name of your trading entity (if available).
Cash-in-hand work can’t be verified digitally.
Unemployed or on a break
Gaps in employment are normal and will simply show as periods with no income or employer data. Your verifier may ask for a brief explanation (e.g. study, travel, caring, or time off).
Agency or umbrella workers
Konfir shows the organisation that paid you (your agency or umbrella company), not the end client you worked for. This is typically expected and accepted by verifiers.
What if something can’t be verified?
If certain periods can’t be verified digitally, your verifier may ask for supporting documents (like payslips or contracts).
Having gaps or unverified roles doesn’t mean you’ve failed a verification - your verifier will guide any next steps.
