Summary

HMRC provides the most authoritative source of data for verifying employment and income in the UK as this data is sourced directly from the UK Government via the PAYE (Pay As You Earn) system. HMRC data is:

  • Official - sourced directly from employer-submitted PAYE records

  • Tamper-proof - records are uneditable

  • Comprehensive - up to 5 years of history, across multiple jobs

  • Secure - user-controlled via Government Gateway

Security and privacy

  • The connection uses HMRC’s own secure API

  • Konfir never sees your login details, as you login with HMRC directly

  • Konfir uses one-time and read-only access requests, which means that:

    • Access is automatically removed after you connect

    • We can’t make any changes to your account

    • We can’t re-access your data at a later date.

Note: To check your access permissions, you can log into your Government Gateway account and review connected applications. You remain in control of your HMRC access at all times.
