Summary
Using Konfir is your choice. Konfir is always consent-based - you decide what to connect, and you can skip individual sources or opt out entirely. It's also not the only way to verify your employment or income; your verifier chooses to use it because it's faster and more secure, but they may have an alternative process if you prefer.
Option 1 - Use Konfir and connect what you're comfortable with
Most people choose to use Konfir because of the benefits:
β‘ Speed β Verifications are completed in minutes, not weeks.
π‘οΈ Privacy β Your current or past employers are never contacted.
π― Accuracy β Your verification is objective and trusted by your verifier.
π Security β Data is encrypted and shared only with your verifier.
If you choose to use Konfir, you're in control of which sources you connect. If you don't want to connect a particular source - for example, if you'd rather not share your bank data - you can skip it and use another source instead, if one is available.
βΉοΈ Note: The sources available to you depend on what your verifier has enabled. Some verifiers only allow one source (for example, HMRC only). If that's the case and you'd rather not use it, you'll need to ask them for a manual alternative.
Option 2 - Ask your verifier for a manual alternative
If you'd prefer not to use Konfir at all, contact your verifier and let them know. They can cancel the Konfir request and offer their standard alternative process, which usually involves:
Payslips, bank statements, or a P60
An employer reference
Other documents relevant to their process
A few things worth knowing about manual alternatives:
They typically take longer - sometimes days or weeks versus minutes with Konfir
They may require you to share more personal information than a Konfir verification would (for example, a full bank statement rather than a structured income summary)
The process varies by verifier - they'll tell you what they need
βΉοΈ Note: Whether verification is required for your application is ultimately your verifier's decision. Konfir itself doesn't compel anyone - but your verifier may make their offer or process conditional on completing a check. If you're unsure whether there's a mandatory requirement, ask them directly.
If you choose not to complete the verification
If you decide not to proceed and let the link expire, the verification request will be cancelled. Konfir won't contact you again about it. Your verifier's process will stall at that point - they may follow up with you directly to discuss next steps or offer an alternative.
