Summary

You’ve been asked to upload documents because the organisation requesting your verification has told us that you’ve had one or more periods of self-employment. For these types of roles, we can’t always complete verification using our usual digital sources (like Open Banking, Payroll, HMRC).

When uploading documents is required

If you are or have previously worked as a sole trader, freelancer or limited company director, you've likely not been paid through PAYE. That means we can’t use digital connections like Open Banking, Payroll or HMRC to verify your employment.

Instead, we ask you to upload one SA302 document per tax year of the self-employment period. This provides confirmation that you filed your Self Assessment tax return to HMRC and helps us to verify your self-employment.

What happens with your documents

Once uploaded, your documents are scanned securely and checked for authenticity. We extract the relevant data to complete your verification and send it to the organisation that requested it.
