My upload failed - why?

Understand why your upload might not have been successful.

Summary

If your upload failed, it’s likely that the document didn’t meet our requirements. We only accept official SA302 documents downloaded from HMRC - other document types or edited versions will be rejected.

Common reasons for upload failure

❌ The document isn’t an official SA302. We only accept SA302 documents that are:

  • Downloaded directly from your HMRC online account

  • Clearly show HMRC branding and tax year information

We do not accept other tax calculations from accountants or tax software, or other document types like bank statements or payslips.

❌ The file has been edited or tampered with:

We do not accept documents that have been modified in any way - such as redacted, re-formatted or digitally altered.

❌ The file does not meet our standards for format and size:

Files uploaded must be:

  • PDF or standard image types (e.g. PNG, JPEG)

  • Smaller than 5MB

What to do

Double check that your document:

  • Is downloaded from the HMRC website

  • Has not been edited or modified

  • Fits our standards for format and size
