If you believe a Konfir verification request was created using your personal details without your knowledge, it may be a sign of identity misuse. This article explains what to do next and who to contact.

1. Report it to Action Fraud (UK)

If you think someone has used your identity without permission, you should report it to Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime.

Phone: 0300 123 2040

If you’re in Scotland, contact Police Scotland on 101.

Konfir cannot confirm or investigate whether identity theft has taken place, so Action Fraud is the correct authority to contact.

2. Let us know if a Konfir verification is involved

If you received a Konfir verification request you did not expect, or you believe someone used your details to complete one: Email us at [email protected].

While we cannot investigate identity theft itself, we can:

  • review the verification activity linked to your details

  • prevent further use of your information within Konfir

  • advise you on next steps in relation to Konfir’s systems

This helps ensure no further verification requests are created using your information.

3. If you're unsure whether this is identity theft

Identity concerns can be stressful, and it’s not always clear whether something is fraudulent.

You may wish to consider:

  • whether anyone else could have legitimately used your details (e.g. an employer, recruiter, or screening provider)

  • contacting the organisation that requested the verification to understand why it was initiated

  • reporting the situation to Action Fraud for advice — even if you are uncertain

They can advise whether what you’re experiencing matches known fraud patterns.

4. Need more help?

We’re here to support you with anything related to Konfir.

Contact us at [email protected] if:

  • you received a verification request you don’t recognise

  • you want us to check whether a request was created using your details

  • you need help understanding how your data is used in our system

For anything involving potential identity theft, Action Fraud should remain your primary point of contact.
