Summary

An SA302 tax calculation provides evidence of self-employment income reported through Self Assessment - something that can't always be captured via HMRC Income Record, bank, or payroll connections alone. It's typically asked for when you're self-employed or have self-assessment income that needs to be verified for a specific period.

Step-by-step

  1. Select "Upload document" on the document step in your verification.

  2. Choose your file - a PDF or image (PNG, JPG, or JPEG) downloaded directly from HMRC. Files must be under 5MB.

  3. Confirm the tax year the document covers, if prompted.

  4. Repeat for each year your verifier has requested, if you need to upload more than one.

  5. Continue to any remaining steps and submit your verification when ready.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Download the file fresh from your HMRC online account rather than using an old copy you may have saved or edited.

What Konfir checks

Konfir runs your SA302 through fraud checks to verify it's a genuine, unaltered document. Once verified, Konfir extracts your self-employment history (dates) and income figures from it. Your verifier can see both the extracted values and the original document in their results.

If you can't upload

If your upload fails or you don't have an SA302, check My document upload failed and I don't have an SA302 - what should I do?. If you're unable to provide a document, skip this source and continue with your other available data sources - you can still submit your verification. Your verifier will review the result and let you know if they need anything further.
