Summary

You've been asked to upload a document because the employment or income being verified relates to self-employment. Digital payroll and PAYE records only cover employed income - for self-employment, Konfir uses tax documents to verify the information instead.

When document upload is needed

You'll only see the document upload step if your specific verification requires it. Konfir requests it when you're self-employed or have self-employment income to verify and other available sources (HMRC, banking) don't provide sufficient evidence on their own. Most employed applicants won't see this step at all.

What documents Konfir accepts

Konfir currently accepts SA302 tax documents only - issued by HMRC and available to download directly from your HMRC online account. We don't accept payslips, bank statements, P60s, Tax Year Overview documents, or any other document type.

What happens with your document

Konfir runs your document through fraud checks and then extracts the relevant details - your self-employment history and income figures. These are added to your verification result. Your verifier can see both the extracted values and the original document. Documents are stored securely and handled in line with Konfir's data retention policy.
