You’ll need a Government Gateway account to connect your HMRC data during your Konfir verification. You can create it quickly - either during the Konfir flow or directly on the HMRC sign-in page. The process takes around 5–10 minutes and you’ll only need to do it once.

Go to the HMRC sign-in page and select “Create sign in details.”
💡 Tip: Have your National Insurance number ready before you start.

Enter your email address and confirm it using the verification code HMRC sends you.
Once accepted, click “Continue.”

Add your full name and choose a strong password (10 characters or more).

You’ll be shown a 12-digit Government Gateway ID — make a note of it. You’ll need this ID and your password to log in again later.

When asked which type of tax account you’d like to create, select “Individual.”
This is the correct option for personal PAYE and employment use.

Add your phone number and choose how you’d like to receive access codes (by text message or authenticator app).

Confirm your details by providing your National Insurance number, date of birth, and other personal information about your income or employment.

Once your account is created, go back to your Konfir link and connect HMRC using your new credentials.
