Summary

If you’ve forgotten your Government Gateway login details, you can recover or reset them directly through HMRC.

Use HMRC’s Get help with signing in tool to retrieve your user ID, password, or both - then return to your Konfir link to reconnect. If you’ve never logged in before, you’ll need to create an account first.

How to recover your details

  1. Start the recovery process - Go to HMRC’s Get help with signing in page. Choose whether you need to recover your user ID, password, or both.

  2. Follow the instructions -You may be asked to confirm personal details such as your name and National Insurance number.

  3. Check your email

    • For your user ID, HMRC will send an email reminder.

    • For your password, you’ll receive a reset link.

  4. Return to Konfir - Once you’ve recovered your details, reopen your Konfir link and reconnect to HMRC.

If you’ve never used Government Gateway

If you’ve never logged in to HMRC online before, you’ll need to create a Government Gateway account before you can connect. Follow our step-by-step guide here: How do I create a Government Gateway account?

If it’s still not working

If recovery isn’t working or you can’t regain access, you can continue your Konfir verification by:

  • Skipping HMRC, and

  • Connecting other sources, such as Banking or Payroll, before submitting your verification.

If you have no other sources available, contact your verifier (the organisation that requested your check). They can continue your process manually using documents such as payslips or references.
