Summary

This message means your one-time HMRC authorisation request was cancelled or expired before it was completed. Once cancelled, the request can’t be reactivated - but don’t worry, you can still continue your verification without reconnecting HMRC.

Why this happens

This usually occurs if:

  • You declined the authorisation request

  • Too much time passed between starting and completing the connection.

  • The authorisation request was incorrectly cancelled due to a HMRC error

Each HMRC access request is one-time only, so if it’s cancelled or times out, a new one must be generated.

What to do

  1. Skip the HMRC step in your Konfir journey.

  2. Connect any other available sources - such as Banking or Payroll.

  3. Submit your verification once you’ve connected your remaining sources.

Your verifier (the organisation that requested your check) will review your verification and contact you if any further information is needed. They may also create a new verification for you, which would generate a new authorisation request.

If HMRC was your only available source, contact your verifier directly - they can continue your process manually, for example by reviewing payslips, P60s, or references.
